Locally

Getting started locally is the easiest way to begin.

You (or your child) can show goats through your county fair. To find details:

• Search for your county fair online

• Look for the “Fair Book”

• Check the dates, rules, and entry requirements

Keep in mind:

• Some fairs only allow 4-H members to show goats

• Others may offer open shows for specific breeds (dairy or meat)

State-Wide or Nationally

Local fairs are a great start—but they usually only happen once a year.

If you want more opportunities, you can show goats at the state or national level. Many goat breed associations host shows throughout the year in different locations.

To find these:

• Search for your goat breed’s official association

• Look for their show calendar or events page

• Check for state chapters you can join

Each show and association will have its own rules, so be sure to read the requirements carefully before entering.
